Measuring Histories: The Golden Potato
I decided to base this project off of my childhood car: a 2005 Ford Freestyle lovingly deemed "The Golden Potato". My family got this car in 2007 after my younger brother was born and we could no longer fit three carseats in our previous car. This car holds so many memories for me from long summer road trips to learning how to drive. After having the car for 18 years, my parents decided to sell it last year and one main goal of this project is to honor the memory of the Golden Potato.
I started by cutting off the front section of the potato and drawing on it with the only thing that would leave a mark: pink eyeliner. I then began to carve away the design with a knife.
I tried stamping the potato in the paint but the design was not that readable so I switched to painting on a layer of paint before pressing the potato on the paper.
After I was done stamping, I finished by painting the entire surface of the potato gold.
